Radiochemistry is the field of study to provide fundamental technologies and analytical data for nuclear industries and researches by investigating physicochemical properties and chemical reactions, which relate radioactive materials. The nuclear industries and researches of Korea has been grown, such as construction of nuclear reactors in foreign countries, disposal of radioactive wastes, and decommission of nuclear power plants. Radiochemistry and nuclear nonproliferation are prerequisite for these works to be successful, which induces growing demands for the corresponding human resource. This major, as the only major relating radiochemistry in Korea, opens the curriculum in largely three fields, which are analytical radiochemistry, chemistry on nuclear energy, and nuclear nonproliferation. The special facilities and the state-of-the-art instruments in KAERI (Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute) will be utilized for the curriculum. The alumni will contribute to the growth of scientific and/or industrial fields of Korea by working in nuclear or other chemistry related institutes.
